Applying creativity and an intensely analytical approach, he developed a reputation for his willingness to steep himself in the complex details of a project while also tackling large-scale initiatives. Notably, Target Shipping was among the first to offer service to West Africa in the 1980s, taking on liability with a steamship line to open up a largely untapped market, which cemented its status as an industry pioneer.

Tal’s diligence was matched by his sincerity and generosity. He was known to spend the night on the couch at Target Shipping’s original headquarters in Lower Manhattan, where he could be found the following morning deep in a phone conversation with an out-of-the-blue caller, who he was eager to advise and assist. His business partnerships became his friendships—and led him to his wife, Felicia Nash, who joined him at the company in 1985.

In 2012, Tal’s son Jared joined Target Shipping, much to Tal’s surprise and delight. Tal instilled his wisdom and values in Jared while working closely alongside him until he died in 2017. Jared has passed those principles along to his brother Dillon, who joined the team in 2018. Along with the continued support and involvement of their mother, Felicia, Jared and Dillon run Target Shipping with the same dedication and heart that were Tal’s hallmarks.
